Nike Miler Tank: Best to be Boring

You know those people that are just cool by being simple, calm, and direct? People like James Bond, Han Solo, and Steve Rodgers.

They don’t need flashy cars, jewelry, clothes, or anything else we associate with being cool.

The Nike Miler Dri-FIT Running Tank makes me feel like that. It’s not showy at all but has this aura of cool simplicity.

Subtle

For a basic tank top to workout it, it’s not exactly cheap. $35 doesn’t break the bank, but it’s a little underwhelming when you see it in person.

You might be like me and initially think, “This thing is surprisingly basic for how much it is.”

It’s not that the Nike Miler Tank is bad or poor quality, it just doesn’t have anything special.

The material isn’t heavy or crazy light. The color is very subdued compared to other colors you get on running gear. (Just look at a pair of running shoes. They can look pretty wild and sometimes ugly with their loud designs and colors.)

The only thing that isn’t basic about the shirt is how long it is. Personally, I like it because it has a more chill vibe. Other running shirts like to look too extreme with weird cut outs, ridiculously thin (and weak) fabric, and cost an arm and a leg.

Refined + Boring

To determine if clothes are worth the money, I have two questions that help.

First, “Is it refined?” Second, “Is it boring to use?” (Both of these questions need to answer “yes” for me to try them.)

If a piece of clothing is refined, then it fulfills your needs and doesn’t fall apart after the first couple months. The real kicker is if it’s boring to wear. Aka you forget what you’re wearing after a few minutes.

Most clothes give the impression of refinement, but only when you use them will you know if they’re both refined and boring.

For example, I once wore a new workout shirt on a run. It felt really soft when I put it on and started running, but by mile two or three my nipples felt like they were rubbed raw with sandpaper. After the first 30 minutes, I had to take it off and never ran in it again.

Nike’s Miler Running Tank is both refined and boring to use. I never think about it while running, lifting, or wearing it throughout the day.

The only time I do, I’m standing in front of a mirror and notice the longer length. And for a moment think, “I look a little cooler in this.”

The Recap

Clothes and styles are completely personal. They reflect who we were, are, and hope to be. But, for me, when I’m running or working out, I don’t care about all that.

What I actually care about and require from my clothes, is that they’re refined, yet boring.

And that’s exactly what the Nike Miler Dri-FIT Running Tank is. Comfortably basic, stylishly subdued, and fantastically boring.
