Promeed Silk Pillowcase: The Best Pillowcase for Sensitive Skin

Promeed Silk Pillowcase

I had a silk tie once. It was a gift from a friend, and stupidly hard to keep clean. Eventually it fell apart when I tried to clean it.

I haven’t looked back at silk made anything since… Until I was perusing Amazon and fell into a black hole of silk pillowcases.

Supposedly, they’re great for people with sensitive skin, scalps, and hair.

Enter, the Promeed 23mm 6A+ 100% Mulberry Silk Pillowcase With Zipper With Laundry Bag. (Why the product name is a mile long, I have now idea.)

Soft?

I don’t know why, but before Promeed’s silk pillowcase arrived, I envisioned this ultra soft fabric that would redefine my understanding of how nice textiles can be.

That didn’t happen.

It feels good, but soft isn’t the word to describe mulberry silk. It’s smooth. But still, not the smoothest material I’ve ever felt. (That title still sits with the inside of the Altra Vanish Carbon 2s.)

These pillowcases advertise acne prevention benefits too. Again, I haven’t noticed a difference. Nor has there been any change in the dryness or frizziness of my hair, not that it’s a problem anyway.

Where this pillowcase comes into its element is when you actually use it every day. I overheat almost every night since my wife sleeps cold and we’re constantly balancing the temp in the room. Thankfully, silk does an amazing job at moving heat and airing out naturally.

This alone is incredibly nice.

Something I didn’t expect to like so much was the zipper. I had a bamboo pillowcase in the past that was super nice in its own right, but it didn’t have a zipper. The pillow constantly slid out of it throughout the night.

Moving forward, zippers are a must for expensive pillowcases!

Daily Use

It’s been a few weeks with Promeed’s pillowcase and like most luxury-like items, they’re a pain to maintain. They all require their ridiculous cleaning regimens. And so help you if you do it wrong, because it can ruin the item almost immediately.

This pillowcase is no different.

Every time I clean it, in its own laundry safe bag, I have to look up what the procedure is.

And if you get a stain on it like I did, then there’s a whole other list of steps you’ll need to follow to a “t” so you don’t ruin it. (As you can tell by this photo, I lack the confidence to remove the stain properly, so it’s here to stay.)

With that being said, the maintenance and more expensive price compared to a regular pillowcase is worth it for some people.

I only say this because the other day I got quite the sunburn on the back of my neck. Beat and tired at the end of the day, I ate, showered, and got into bed in an hour or less. All while my neck felt like sandpaper.

Until I lied down. The cool temp of the pillowcase felt amazing, and as I slide around to get comfortable, the pillowcase didn’t irritate the sunburn in the slightest. If anything, it was relaxing.

I don’t know where that smoothness came from, but that’s mind blowing!

The Recap

Despite the high price, I would recommend the Promeed silk pillowcase. I like how they specify what grade of silk they use compared to more affordable options on Amazon that don’t.

As an affiliate partner of Promeed though, they’ve provided this promo code for 15% off: KCPM15.

Whether you buy Promeed’s pillowcase or not, the cooling and smoothness of silk is worth it the more you use it. And assuming you follow the strict cleaning regimen, then it should last.
